In the F-Type, Jaguar finally released a successor to the inimitable E-Type, a styling exercise that brought the basic shape of arguably the most beautiful car ever made, at least according to Enzo Ferrari, to a more modern sportscar package. The F-Type would be far more striking if the E-Type hadn’t spawned copycat styling from a plethora of manufacturers over the last 50 years.
Less of a GT, determined only from luggage capacity, the F-Type competes directly with 911, Maserati, and even Corvette and does so with aplomb. The cockpit is a focused, intense environment, all sportscar. Not oppressive in the slightest, essentially through a panoramic glass roof. There’s no wood trim to be found, but carbon fiber and the gentle throbbing of a red starter button, gently illuminating at 74bpm, the resting heart rate of a jaguar.
At the heart of the car is a 340bhp supercharged V6, producing 340bhp, a figure that defies the performance. 0-60mph comes up in just 5 seconds and the car will carry on to a 161mph top speed.
The 2016 Jaguar F-Type coupé on offer here is striking in the stylish black on black livery. Purposeful in design, the black wheels, shod with good tires with plenty of tread remaining, set off the aggressive and subtle look. With all original paint, but for the front bumper, reshot because of standard stone chips, the car is in excellent condition throughout. The black interior shows negligible wear, the car having covered less than 17,000 miles from new. And everything works as it should, from 14-way power seats with side bolster adjustment to the dynamic Meridian sound system with 770 watts of power.
Mechanically, the car is in excellent condition. The engine is powerful and responsive and shifting gears is a delight through a 6-speed manual. The car is a pleasure to drive and needs nothing to be fully enjoyed by its next custodian. And it sounds fantastic, too…
