One of 1,000 produced
1978 Harley-Davidson MX250

It seemed that all the manufacturers were playing in the dirt with off-roaders and motocrossers in the 1970s. All but one… Harley wanted to play, but weren’t particularly well-equipped to produce a capable off-rad motorcycle. Fortunately, they were enjoying a partnership with Italian firm, Aermacchi, who knew their way around a high performance 2-stroke engine. It was developed by a couple of America riders, Marty Tripes and Rex Staten, but came in a bit heavy and Harley’s management pulled the plug on development. Interestingly, that makes the MX25 a one-year only model and one of the rarest Harley-Davidsons. Various sources quote a production run of only 1,000 units, but nobody knows the survival rate 30-plus years later.

The motorbike offered

The 1978 Harley-Davidson MX250 on offer here was imported from Italy a few years ago to a California collector. It was used sparingly and kept on static display until recently liberated and given a full re-commissioning service.
