Motorvation Harley-Davidson Sidecar “The Side Bar”
On offer here is a fantastic bit of garage art/automobilia. It started life as a custom Motorvation sidecar, a copy of a traditional Harley-Davidson sidecar rig. The firm custom made the sidecar complete with a disc brake for their special client. In World War II livery, the sidecar was part of a Harley outfit, owned and ridden quite extensively, by the inimitable Arnold Schwarzenegger. Of Austrian birth, Arnie rose to fame at the age of only 20 by winning the Mr. Universe competition. From bodybuilding, he branched out into a hugely successful Hollywood career, starring in such blockbusters as Conan The Barbarian, The Terminator, Running Man, Total Recall, Predator, Commando, Twins and Kindergarten Cop, to name but a few. From movies, he switched to politics, achieving the Governorship for the state of California.
The Harley rig was purchased by our vendor directly from Schwarzenegger. He offered it for sale, and then removed the sidecar from the bike when sold as its new owner was not interested in a sidecar outfit. The sidecar was then modified by adding a frame and an underlit mechanism to display bottles of the adult beverages of his choosing and taking prominent display in his Beverly Hills home. The head and taillight also illuminate for a definitive talking point. And then there’s the license plate!
In the trunk of the sidecar Motorvation installed a plaque, commemorating the first owner. Also, a photo of Arnie riding the Harley rig around Hollywood and a scan of the title of that bike, still in his name with the address of Arnold Schwarzenegger Productions in Venice, California, are featured in the gallery below.
This has to be the most fun piece of garage furniture, practical, fun and with great Hollywood (and Sacramento) provenance.
