These adorable little racers can trace their heritage back to the Cushman and Doodle Bug scooters of the 1950s, but the craze really took off with garage and garden-shed made machines proving to be the ideal pit bike for racers to get around the pits. They slid easily in to the transporter or with folding handlebars, they’ll fit in the trunk of your car. Mainstream manufacturers followed suit, the most famous of which is Honda with their Z50 range of “monkey” bikes, so called from the riding position on the diminutive 49cc bundle of hilarity.
In 1978 the Z50J Monkey was heavily revised with a larger fuel tank, front and rear racks, 12-volt CDI ignition, manual clutch and a four-speed gearbox, becoming the more aggressive looking ‘Gorilla’.
This stunning and rare example of the Gold Edition has covered only 72kms from new and is offered in just about as-new condition. In perfect running order, it is a hoot to ride and certainly a perfect gift to put under the Christmas tree…. Or even hanging on it!
