It’s been a long three years since Husqvarna unveiled the Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen 401 at the EICMA show in 2014, announcing to the world that it chose a whole new direction. A long three years of more teasers and hoping that we’d see a production version, and Husky released the Vitpilen 701 concept and announced that we’d be getting a futuristic café racer in both small and medium sizes.
This, my friends, is the year. This is the 2018 Husqvarna Vitpilen 701, and it’s ready for you.
The thing about being teased this long is that we know most of the details already. It’s powered by the same 693cc liquid-cooled single from the KTM 690 Duke and Husqvarna 701 Supermoto, producing 75 hp at 8,500 rpm and 53 pound-feet of torque at 6,750 rpm. Interestingly enough, that max horsepower figure is listed at 500 rpm higher than the 701 Supermoto.
The Vitpilen 701 gets a chrome-moly steel-trellis frame, which is laser cut, robot welded, and hydro-formed to ensure precision and quality. Husqvarna claims the frame’s torsional rigidity and longitudinal flex have been engineered to provide detailed feedback and even weight distribution.
Braking comes from a 320mm disc up front mated to a Brembo four-piston, radially-mounted caliper. The rear gets a 240mm disc and Brembo single-piston floating caliper. There’s also a two-channel Bosch 9+ ABS system, which can be disabled.
The Vitpilen 701 also gets the same APTC (Adler Power Torque Control) slipper clutch as the KTM 690 Duke and Husky 701 Supermoto, which helps limit back torque and rear wheel chatter under aggressive downshifts.
As with most KTMs/Husqvarnas, suspension is handled by WP with an upside-down 43mm fork and monoshock with linkage. The Vitpilen 701 has 5.3 inches of travel front and rear. The Vitpilen 701 also has a 56.5-inch wheelbase, 32.7-inch seat height, 3.2-gallon tank, and tips the scales at 346 pounds before fuel.
As with most of the bikes unveiled at EICMA, the only thing we have left to see is the price—something we’re expecting to come higher than any of us would like. The Husqvarna 701 Supermoto has an MSRP of $11,300, and with all the finishes and styling put into this thing we imagine the Vitpilen will be a grand or two more than that.
Overall, we’re incredibly stoked on the production model. So often, we’re blown away by the beauty of concept bikes only to be disappointed when the actual production bike hits dealer floors. But Husqvarna managed to keep cool-styled bits like the exhaust and engine covers, and the cockpit looks appealing.
We’re not sure who the buyer for this bike is, but we know we’ll be waiting first in line to ride one.

The 701 on offer here hails from a discerning Southern California collector of finely restored or superbly original classic motorcycles and cars. An in-town LA traffic-beater, our vendor covered a few thousand of the shade over 7,000 total miles, having purchased the bike from the original owner. Never dropped, the bike is in excellent condition throughout, free of scratches and scuffs, and looks the part with tasteful upgrades in a Rage Cycles fender delete kit, bar-end indicators added to match the rear units. A recent installation of Bridgestone Battlax tires ensures the bike is truly ready to go.
The machine is offered on a clean, clear California title with current registration.
