Ducati’s supremely capable Multistrada is a perfect culmination of a Supermoto and Sport Tourer, powered by the obligatory v-twin, in a trellis frame. A stunning design by the famed Pierre Terblanche, Ducati’s in-house guru of style and design, the original was a somewhat controversial bike receiving some strong reviews, summed up by UK’s Motor Cycle News as “a truly versatile motorcycle”.
New for 2017 was the smaller brother to the 1200, a 937cc twin from the Hypermotard and new Supersport, wrapped in a tighter, simpler adventure-bike package to create the Multistrada 950. With a claimed 113 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and 71 lb-ft of torque at 7,750, the 950 engine’s output is right in the sweet spot for a do-it-all machine and with a 19-inch front wheel, that power is a piece of cake to control, whatever the chosen road surface.
Like the 1200, the 950 offers throttle-by-wire with four riding modes—Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro—with full power always on tap in the first two and the urge reduced to 75 horsepower in the city and off-road modes. Changing riding modes while stopped or on the fly also automatically adjusts the 3 levels of Bosch 9.1 MP ABS and 8 levels of Ducati Traction Control (DTC) to suit each riding mode, and the rider can personalize and save the settings or even turn the intervention off. Its Brembo triple disc brakes with opposed four-piston calipers and a radial master cylinder up front are quite strong and offer excellent feel.
The 2017 Ducati 950cc Multistrada on offer here, has been enjoyed by a single owner from new and now shows an original 15,540 miles on the odometer. As part of an extensive collection, the bike has been meticulously maintained. The bike rides perfectly, handles superbly and the Brembo brakes pull the bike up on a dime. With 6¢ change.
This regularly serviced, well maintained and cared-for example comes with all books and keys (pictured).
The Multistrada is a fabulous ride, fast and fun in the twisties or on the long haul.
