2017 BMW R1200GS Exclusive

Incredibly, the GS has been around for 35 years! In that time, the bike has been massaged and developed, going from strength to strength. Credited as the bike that saved BMW in the 1980s, the Gelände/Strasse in its native tongue, or off road/road, the supremely capable machine was equally at home on the dirt as it was on the tarmac. And with the ground-breaking front suspension architecture, was a canyon slicing, crotch-rocket-embarrassing machine to boot. No wonder, over ½ a million have been sold.

Powered by a 1,170cc air/liquid-cooled, four-stroke flat-twin, shaft-drive engine, the ’17 R1200GS puts out 125 hp at 7,7450 rpm with 92 ft-lb of torque. For 2017, some nice features included optional Riding Modes Pro package adds Dynamic, Dynamic Pro, Enduro and Enduro Pro ride modes, Dynamic Traction Control (lean-angle sensitive traction control), Hill Start Control for easy hill starts, and ABS Pro (cornering ABS). Dynamic ESA “Next Generation,” BMW’s latest Electronic Suspension package, is also a factory option. It not only provides continuous, real-time damping adjustments, but also performs automatic self-leveling to account for load variations.

Available in Rallye and Exclusive spec, the Exclusive package is aimed squarely at the touring GS rider, with a comfortable two-piece seat, a splash guard on the front fender.

It presents exceptionally well, in excellent condition throughout, coming to sale from a local Los Angeles enthusiast with a small collection. The bike sports BMW’s 3-piece luggage package and a full keyless riding experience. Kept primarily for out-of-town guests to enjoy the roads of PCH, the Malibu hills and Santa Monica mountains, it is now getting very little use, so it is time for the bike to find new adventures in the hands of a new adventurer.
