2017 BMW R1200GS Rallye

2017 BMW R1200GS Rally

After 35 years, the GS has just about become the bike that defines the dual-sport/touring genre. The capable on/off road machine has seen constant development in that time with leaps forward in the ground-breaking front suspension set up, enabling the large touring be-luggaged bike to embarrass the average Sunday morning canyon carver. The bike was made famous by Ewan McGregor’s multiple “around the world” adventures with riding pal, Charlie Boardman.

For 2017, the powerplant remained essentially unchanged with 1,170cc of air/liquid-cooled flat-twin, shaft-drive engine, producing 125 hp and 92 ft-lb of torque. For 2017, some nice features included optional Riding Modes Pro package adds Dynamic, Dynamic Pro, Enduro and Enduro Pro ride modes, Dynamic Traction Control (lean-angle sensitive traction control), Hill Start Control for easy hill starts, and ABS Pro (cornering ABS). Dynamic ESA “Next Generation,” BMW’s latest Electronic Suspension package, is also a factory option. It not only provides continuous, real-time damping adjustments, but also performs automatic self-leveling to account for load variations.

Available in Rallye and Exclusive spec, the Rallye package is designed for the more aggressive off-road rider. It features increased spring rate (read: “harder suspension”), with longer spring struts and extended travel for the rigors of hard riding. It has cross-spoke wheels and comes in a special Rallye livery, with Lupine Blue metallic paint, BMW Motorsport coloring on the tank, black drivetrain and Cordoba Blue frame.

The motorcycle offered

The 2017 BMW R1200GS Rallye offered here, shows an original 16,000 miles from new. It presents exceptionally well, in excellent condition throughout, coming to sale from a local Los Angeles enthusiast with a small collection. The bike sports BMW’s 2-piece hard side luggage panniers, BMW Navigation system, auxiliary spotlights and a full keyless riding experience. Kept primarily for out-of-town guests to enjoy the roads of PCH, the Malibu hills and Santa Monica mountains, it is now getting very little use, so it is time for the bike to find new adventures in the country’s, if not the world’s enormous on/off road playground.
