After 35 years, the GS has just about become the bike that defines the dual-sport/touring genre. The capable on/off road machine has seen constant development in that time with leaps forward in the ground-breaking front suspension set up, enabling the large touring be-luggaged bike to embarrass the average Sunday morning canyon carver. The bike was made famous by Ewan McGregor’s multiple “around the world” adventures with riding pal, Charlie Boardman.
For 2012, the 1,170cc of air/liquid-cooled flat-twin, shaft-drive powerplant produced 110 hp and 88 ft-lb of torque, affording this supremely versatile and capable machine the Swiss Army Knife reputation.
The 2012 BMW R1200GS offered here, in Alpine White with red frame, shows an original 17,000 miles from new. It presents exceptionally well, in very good condition throughout, having been enjoyed by only two owners from new. The original owner covered about 10,000 miles, but unfortunately passed away a couple of years ago. The bike sat in the garage for about a year and a half, until sold to our vendor, by the family. They were adamant it go to someone who would appreciate it and take care of it. Only after meeting them personally and chatting for almost 2 hours did they agree to allow him to purchase it. He immediately put two new tires on it at 10k miles and put it in the dealership for a 12k mile service. An oil change at 14k miles, and another to ready the bike for sale is the service history known.
The bike comes from a local Los Angeles enthusiast. The bike sports BMW’s 3-piece hard side luggage panniers and top box, BMW Navigation system, and four auxiliary spotlights.
