2001 Vertemati C500 Supermotard

The founders of Vertemati cut their teeth running the Grand Prix motocross team for Husqvarna, then Husaberg, until branching out on their own. Using bolted-together frames, non-primary forward kickstarting, three-speed transmissions, etc., they were distincly similar to a VOR, primarily because VOR purchased the rights to produce the Vertematis’ first bike. Without a “no-compete” clause, the boys started up again.

The C500 was their initial offering in motocross and then Enduro and Supermotard guise. A rarity in this country, a handful were imported by MX Imports of San Rafael, California. The most striking thing is the diminutive size of the machine, which is quickly followed by a reaction to the ease of starting and the plentiful power from the 500 single mated to a 6-speed ‘box. Cycle World noted “there’s a very wide spread of power, similar to past VORs we’ve raved so much about, with maybe a bit more urge in the midrange. This is the kind of motor that loves long, flowing tracks and a rider who hates to shift. On SoCal’s Glen Helen circuit, a Yammie 426 uses three gears, the Vertemati was happy to be left in one gear, fourth.”

The motorbike offered

The 2001 Vertemati Supermotard on offer here is one of only six believed to be imported in to the US. In excellent overall condition, the bike has been on static display and will need the usual recommissioning before returning to the track.

Sold on a California title.
