Introduced in 1993, the 1100RS is a fine tourer, with a distinctly sporting edge. The engine is standard BMW flat, or ‘boxer’ twin in “oilhead” configuration, or air-cooled cylinders with oil-cooled heads. The 1,085cc fuel-injected 8-valve engine is tuned for an output of 90 horsepower.
In addition to using the engine as a stressed member, the R1100RS has a composite aluminum frame to which the suspension components are attached. The front suspension is BMW’s Telelever, with its pivoting wishbone and monoshock. The R1100RS has a very substantial half fairing which completely envelops the alloy fuel tank.
The 1100RS on offer here hails from an international collector. He kept a handful of bikes in the Los Angeles area for when he and select friends would fly in and enjoy trips up PCH or across the desert. Each bike was meticulously stored at a shop with in-house mechanic to keep them in top riding condition. His collection at home is beyond phenomenal and with hundreds of bikes through all eras over the last 130 years, from all corners of the motorcycle manufacturing world. As such, the BMW here, in red livery, is in fine riding condition. Showing 22,000 miles from new, the bike is fresh from a service to ready it for sale. It starts easily, idles smoothly, and has great power from the flat twin. The bike shifts smoothly through all six gears, brakes well and all electrical systems work as they should. Cosmetically, the bike is in excellent condition with minor wear, conducive with age and mileage.
The bike comes with a clean, clear California title. California resident buyers: the motorcycle has been placed in non-op status at the DMV so as to not incur any further registration fees.
