Description
1998 Ducati 900SS Final Edition
The 900SS was introduced by Ducati to fill a gap in the model range alongside the 851 Superbike Championship contender. A super sports roadster with a belt drive, air-cooled, two-valves-per-cylinder v-twin, which could trace its roots to the Pantah 500 of 1978. Easy to own and maintain than the 851, yet with a very capable 80bhp, enabling 140mph flat out on the exquisite handling machine. The Final Edition of the 900SS was released in 1998 with only 800 motorcycles built in silver bodywork on a bronze frame, and all numbered on a plaque mounted on the top yoke.
The motorbike offered
The 1998 Ducati 900SS on offer here has been in our vendor’s collection since 2011 and is one of 300 Final Edition examples built for the North American market and is finished in silver over a bronze trellis frame. Power is provided by its original 904cc desmodromic L-twin paired with a six-speed transmission. The bike features a full fairing with carbon fiber lowers, replacing originals following a very low-speed driveway spill – the original fairing lowers are photographed and accompany the sale. This began a labor of love with a plethora of enhancements to what was to be the vendor’s “forever bike”, but a move to the Hawaiian Islands dictates the sale. Also featured is a monoposto tail section, with a carbon fiber replacement that also accompanies the sale (pictured). Brembo brake calipers, aftermarket, high quality BOS Swedish carbon fiber covered exhaust, carbon-fiber fenders complete the aggressive stance of the machine. Other recent modifications to enhance performance, reliability and to save weight include:
Vintage Technomagnesio magnesium wheels
Brand new Pirelli tires
Dyna Mini Coils
Lithium Ion Battery with new wiring
Stainless lines
New alloy clutch basket/pack
Alloy exhaust collars
Stainless rear fender eliminator
Öhlins rear shock
Custom tailored leather seat
Ducati Performance steering damper
Open airbox with K&N filter
Number 264 of the 800 Final Editions made for the entire world, was acquired by our mature vendor in 2011 and has been enjoyed sparingly since. Now showing 15,000 miles on the odometer, the bike was recently serviced to ensure a full Ducati riding experience for the next owner.
The bike starts easily and rides well. The sale is accompanied by the original fairing panels, a spare gas tank, a monoposto seat unit in carbon fiber.
Sold on a clean, clear California title.
