1996 BMW R850R with rebuilt Öhlins suspension

1996 BMW R850R

BMW’s R850R was introduced in 1994 and features an 850cc version of the big brother 1100 ‘boxer’ 4-valve twin, as is the company’s tradition. Its comfort, versatility, and overall quality led reviewers to deem it a successful combination of a venerable engine and frame layout with the latest technology. The R850R chassis and engine are shared by the GS, with 70bhp.

The motorcycle offered here

The R850R on offer here hails from an international collector. He kept a handful of bikes in the Los Angeles area for when he and select friends would fly in and enjoy trips up PCH or across the desert. Each bike was meticulously stored at a shop with in-house mechanic to keep them in top riding condition. His collection at home is beyond phenomenal and with hundreds of bikes through all eras over the last 130 years, from all corners of the motorcycle manufacturing world. As such, the BMW here, in mid-grey livery, is in fine riding condition. Showing 38,400 miles from new, the bike is fresh from a service to ready it for sale. It starts easily, idles smoothly, and has great power from the flat twin. The bike shifts smoothly through all six gears, brakes well and all electrical systems work as they should. Cosmetically, the bike is in excellent condition with minor wear, conducive with age and mileage.

And it handles superbly, with rebuilt Öhlins suspension front and rear.

The bike comes with tank bag, full set of hard luggage, books and spare keys, and clean, clear California title.

For California resident buyers: the motorcycle has been placed in non-op status at the DMV so as to not incur any further registration fees.
