1985 Porsche 911SC Carrera Targa. Since introduction way back in 1964, the 911 has achieved innumerable successes in just about all car hobby disciplines: racing, rallying, concours, touring, to daily driver and courtesy of a somewhat useable rear seat, family car. Porsche developed the 911 from the 356, arming it with 6-cylinder power and have continued to develop the car over that 57 years. Two years after introduction, the ‘Targa” was introduced, named for the numerous trophies attained at the Sicilian rally, and designed to adhere to U.S. legislation with a sturdy roll-over bar at the ‘B’ pillar, and a removable, stowable roof panel for the convertible-loving clientele.
The car offered here, of 1985 vintage, is one of the most robust and versatile 911 models – the SC Carrera. A mechanically sound example, the car is an opportunity to drive a simple restoration project. A rust and accident free car, the car was painted some years ago, but with a few cracks in the finish, needs refurbishment. Glass is excellent all ’round, Fuchs alloy wheels are excellent and shod with nearly new tires. It would benefit from a new interior refurbishment to the front seats (torn driver’s side and hard leather surfaces) and cracked dashboard (see photos). Carpets are in good condition as are panels, though door panels have minor cracks to the top edges. The targa top has been recently refurbished and fits well. The AC system does not blow cold.
The 1985 Porsche 911SC Carrera Targa is a great driving example. It starts easily, idles smoothly and has strong power, with an original 89,000 miles from new is indicated on the odometer. The car shifts smoothly, brakes well and handles as a Porsche should. Certainly a fun ride.
