The adorable kei-truck gets its name from the Japanese keitora, or light truck, designed to satisfy Japanese light vehicle restrictions. Produced from various manufacturers since 1959, the design was developed from 3-wheeled load-carrying motorcycles of the pre-War era to the 1500lb, 660cc pick-ups of today with a 700lb load capacity. And produced by the likes of Honda and Suzuki, they are proven to be typically reliable.
The cab-over design allows greater load capacity, while adhering to the length restrictions, while the 660cc engine is mid-mounted, like a Ferrari, Lamborghini or McLaren for better weight distribution. Obviously.
The Honda Acty on offer here, of 1983 vintage, was recently imported from Japan. Showing a little over 60,000kms, believed to be original, the truck is in very solid overall condition. Surface rust is merely that, while paint finish is fair. The interior is in good condition with excellent dash. Mechanically, the truck is in excellent condition, starting easily and with great pep from the 660cc engine. It shifts perfectly through the manual gearbox with good clutch action. Brakes, suspension and all electrical work perfectly, including the 80+km/h buzzer!
