1978 BMW 798cc R80/7

As all manufacturers do in claiming model year over year improvements, BMW upped the capacity of their inimitable air-cooled flat-twin engined R75 from 750 to 800cc and renamed it the R80/7 for 1977. Traditional levels of BMW engineering and reliability wasn’t cheap at the time
‘BMW have built their reputation almost solely on the touring virtues of their flat twins, so it was a pleasant reminder when I rode the R80 that a balance of performance and ride properties can produce a versatility based on excellent rather than average capability in every department.’ – Bike magazine, July 1980.

The motorbike offered

The second-year, matching-numbers R80/7 on offer here has been thoroughly enjoyed by only 2-owners from new, with 84,500 miles indicated on the odometer. It is reported to have received very regular maintenance with records back to 1980 accompanying the bike, and is in fine running condition. The original paint comes with small chips and minor imperfections creating a nice original patina. We are told that all systems work as they should, and in the service to ready it for sale, the valves were adjusted. It comes with Seattle bags and a touring fairing for added long-distance comfort.

Sold on a clean, clear New Mexico title.
