Description

1975 Triumph T160 Trident

Introduced in 1969 with its cylinders bolt upright in the chassis, the T150 Trident got off to a shaky start. While the three-cylinder was technically impressive and soon to have a race pedigree that would be envied, the production streetbike was hampered with dubious styling. The bike’s squared-off “bread loaf” gas tank and campy “ray gun” mufflers were over the top and not well received. Triumph quickly retreated and offered a “beauty kit” for dealers to install that replicated the look of the beloved Bonneville.

It wasn’t until late in 1974 that the Trident, now called a T160, got good looks to call its own. This used the inclined-cylinder triple borrowed from sister company BSA, atop which perched a truly beautiful fuel tank of classic proportions. Equipment updates included electric starting, a 5-speed gearbox, and disc brakes front and rear. T160 production would go on for little more than a year; in all, just over 7200 units were produced.

The motorbike offered

The 1975 Triumph T160 on offer here comes from a Southern California collection. In original condition, the bike was liberated from long term storage and will need the usual recommissioning to all mechanical systems before returning to regular road use. Sold on a clean, clear title.
