Description

1975 Kawasaki KT250 Trials

Development of the trials motorcycle has been marked by a series of high-profile collaborations between star riders and the sport’s major manufacturers, most notably Sammy Miller’s association with Bultaco (and later Honda). Miller’s successful transformation of the Sherpa into a world-beater prompted rivals Montesa to recruit Don Smith and later Malcolm Rathmell to develop the Cota, while Mick Andrews was signed by Ossa, giving his name to the ‘Mick Andrews Replica’. Don Smith was wooed successfully by the Japanese, transferring his allegiance to Kawasaki in 1972. Formerly with Greeves, Smith certainly had the resumé to justify his appointment, having won the European Trials Championship on three occasions (1964, 1967, and 1969). Don built a prototype using a Kawasaki 450cc moto-cross engine, which led in 1975 to the launch of the production KT250, undeniably one of the best-looking trials bikes ever to come out of Japan.

The 1975 Kawasaki KT250 Trials is finished in green and white bodywork and is powered by a 246cc two-stroke single rated at 16 horsepower and 14 lb-ft of torque paired with a five-speed transmission, mounted in a chrome-moly double-loop frame with preload-adjustable shocks, alloy rims, drum brakes, front and rear lighting, Superlube oil injection, electronic ignition, a kick starter, a chain tensioner, a chain oiler, folding foot pegs, a side stand, and a high-mount exhaust system. Wire-spoke wheels are laced with 21″ front and 18″ rear alloy rims and wear Dunlop trials tires.

The motorbike offered

The very early 1975 Kawasaki KT250 on offer here comes from a Southern California collection. In original condition, the bike was in storage for some time so will need a full recommissioning to ready classic trials duties.
