1972 Norton Combat Commando Interstate Project

The Commando’s vibration-beating Isolastic frame enabled Norton Villiers successfully to prolong the life of their ageing parallel twin. Launched in 1967, the Commando used the preceding Featherbed-framed Atlas model’s 745cc engine and AMC gearbox, and was an instant hit with the motorcycling public, being voted Motor Cycle News ‘Machine of the Year’ for five consecutive years. It offered superior mid-range torque and steadier handling than rivals BSA-Triumph’s 750cc triples and Honda’s CB750 four.

The Combat Commando had uprated internals from the standard machine and delivered 65bhp over the standard bike’s 56bhp, while the Interstate offered greater riding range from the larger long-distance gas tank.

The motorbike offered

The 1972 Norton Combat Commando Interstate has been in long time ownership and storage.  Recently liberated, the matching-numbers machine is offered in non-running condition, in need of restoration. The engine has compression, but attention will need to be given to all mechanical and cycle parts. A complete bike ready for café racer custom treatment or concours show bike. Or even a great rider steeped in many years of patina.
