1970 Yamaha 200cc CS3C Electric Start
Yamaha introduced the 200cc CS3 twin in 1970, which was a development of the preceding 180cc CS2. Although in a capacity class dominated by mundane ride-to-work bikes, the sporty CS3 was guaranteed to appeal to the commuter determined to have some fun on the way to the office. Like all Yamaha two-stroke twins it was a willing performer, the 22bhp twin mounted in a lightweight frame, being capable of propelling the nimble machine to over 85mph.
The motorcycle offered
The 1970 Yamaha 200cc CS3C on offer here, comes from a discerning collection of Yamaha off-roaders. The rare CS3 was purchased new at Harry Foster Yamaha in Los Angeles, CA and is now offered in unrestored and original condition throughout. Featuring an electric start, the capable twin cylinder model was only manufactured for two years – 1970-71.
It was purchased in 2020 and immediately received a service by local expert of the marque. The carbs were adjusted with ignition timing, oil pump, a new clutch and right-side cylinder, piston, rings. A repaint of the tach and speedo gave the bike some sparkle, while the forks were resealed, with new boots.
