Triumph works twins attained back to back trophy success in 1966 and ’67, first in the hands of Buddy Elmore and then Gary Nixon, at Florida’s esteemed Dayton 200 mile race. From “race on Sunday, sell on Monday” mantra, the Daytona name was adopted for the firm’s 500cc twin-carb roadster.
The mini-Bonneville twin is mounted in a slightly more compact frame and with only marginally less power than its big brother, makes the Daytona an ideal twisty lane weapon.
The 1969 Triumph 500cc T100R Daytona on offer here was subject to a comprehensive restoration some years ago. Now, in nicely settled condition throughout, the bike presents well. The bike has been on static display for many years in a climate controlled environment. It was recommissioned to ready it for sale and runs well. Under present ownership, a new pair of carbs from JRC Engineering were installed two years ago. Our vendor tells us it starts on the first or second kick and runs really well. Extensive enjoyed, he tells us it has seen more than 300 rides while in his care.
