Successor to the Knucklehead and then the Panhead, the Shovelhead was introduced in 1966. It offered greater power with smoother delivery and was built with classic Harley touring in mind. The darling of the customizer, the Shovelhead is the perfect basis for any kind of chopper.

The last machine to leave the Milwaukee production line before the shareholders of AMF approved the purchase of controlling shares of Harley-Davidson for $21 million, the beginning of another chapter in the history of the company.
