1968 Montgomery Wards/Benelli 250cc Scrambler

1968 Montgomery Wards/Benelli 250cc Scrambler

During the 1950s and ‘60s, America shopped at Montgomery Ward. If you didn’t visit one of their many department stores, you bought from their mail order catalogue. With such a distribution network, they explored every angle to provide products and service to their clientele. Obviously, motorcycles were a natural… uh hum. Buying in small displacement motorcycles and scooters from such European firms as Motobecane, Lambretta, Mitsubishi, Bianchi and Benelli, rebadged and remarketed. A selection of Italy’s Benelli range were marketed under the ‘Wards Riverside’ brand name.

The motorbike offered

The 1968 Montgomery Wards/Benelli on offer here comes from a Northern California collector and professional mechanic, having owned the bike for about 4 years. A rarity in the US, the 250cc Scrambler model, it features stainless fenders by Inox, CEV lighting equipment and Tomaselli Super pratic throttle. An original California black license plate survivor, the bike runs, stops, and functions just as it did the day it left the dealer, having been fully gone through mechanically, with a new NOS clutch, valve and timing adjustment as well as a full rebuild of the dellorto carburetor. A brand-new NOS high pipe header and heat shields, correct for this model, were installed, on this now a well sorted machine.
