Introduced in 1967, Chevrolet’s response to the wildly successful Mustang by Ford, the Camaro embodied the spirit of the muscle car era. Designed to appeal to a wide audience, it offered a range of engines and options to suit various tastes and budgets. The first-generation Camaro shared its platform with the Pontiac Firebird and was available in coupe or convertible body styles.
The 1968 model year brought significant updates, including refined styling with a longer hood and shorter rear deck, giving it a more aggressive stance. With its blend of performance, style, and customization options, the 1968 Camaro set the stage for generations of enthusiasts and cemented its status as a classic American muscle car. Now, half a century later, the Camaro is a perfect platform to recapture your youth while modern customization bring the car to the 21st Century.
The 1968 Chevrolet Camaro on offer here fits just that bill. Starting in the spring of 2021 with a solid, rust-free car, it was stripped, refinished and repainted in a very appropriate “Lead Foot Grey” at a cost of over $8,000. Bumpers were wrapped in Black Chrome finish and decklid spoiler added. New weather stipping, carbon fiber sill plates, new door handles and locks were installed. A freshly refinished interior in black with grey alcantara inserts and red stitching, also houses upgrades including full digital Dakota dashboard, power windows, a Jensen audio system with rear camera and bluetooth connectivity, and a Vintage Air AC system. In the trunk is a Kicker subwoofer and new carpet.
The drivetrain was treated to a complete overhaul with an engine swap to a LS1 5.7 liter aluminium block Corvette powerplant. Power is transferred to the rear through a 3.73 gear set in the differential. The car breaths through a full 2.5″ exhaust system.
The car sits and handles exceptionally well on Stage 2 Pro-Touring suspension. Classic Performance Products of Plancentia, California supplied upper and lower control arms, and 1 1/8″ sway bar and the Viking coil-over shocks. Stopping was upgraded to Wilwood Front Disc Brake setup. The car sits on Toyo Extensa HPII tires, 245/45R at the front, 275/40R to the rear mounted on 17″ Vision 147 Daytona rims in a Satin Black finish.
The car is accompanied by the original Protectoplate and owners manual, as well as a substantial file of receipts, including new gas tank, etc.
