Bultaco was thrown in to the spotlight when, in 1973, Yakima, Washington’s Jim Pomeroy won the 1973 Spanish Grand Prix. Americans dashed out and bought a Pursang as a result. However, it was preceeded by the beautifully detailed 1968 360 El Bandido. A much rarer machine than the Pursang, it would also compete in the Open Class as a 360cc wighing in at 251 lbs. Bandidos are rare in the US. Even though Spanish bikes of the era (Montesa, OSSAs, Bultacos) were known for their poor metallurgy, the castings and cases of these Bultaco engines are beautifully finished works of art.
This 1968 Bultaco 360cc El Bandido TT hails from an extensive collection and is believed to be the first example imported to the USA, and was signed by Jim Pomeroy (pictured). Having been on static display for that many years, the bike was recommissioned to ready it for sale, though further fettling may be necessary before competitive use.
