1967 Triumph 490cc T100C

1967 Triumph 490cc T100C

Introduced for the 1960 season, the Tiger 100A was the first sports version of Triumph’s new unit-construction 500cc twin, the 5TA. A raised compression ratio and ‘hotter’ cams helped the Tiger to a top speed in the region of 90mph, while the retention of a single carburetor meant that fuel economy did not suffer unduly. The T100A was soon replaced by the T100SS and by the middle of the decade there was also an enduro-styled, ‘off-road’ alternative – the T100C. Readily distinguishable by its twin upswept exhausts, the single-carburetor T100C was sold at first only in the USA, but from late 1967 became available in the UK alongside the twin-carb T100T Daytona.

The motorbike offered

The 1967 Triumph T100C on offer here comes from a local enthusiast and collector. On static display for many years, the bike was just liberated and fully recommissioned in our shop, which, to be honest, didn’t need much. A flush of the tank and fuel lines and a good clean of the carb was all the fuel system needed. The spark side needed a bit more help with the ET Ignition, but it now works perfectly. The bike starts exceptionally easily and rides perfectly well. It has lovely power delivery and shifts well through a nice clutch. Brakes and suspension work as they should. It’s a wonderful ride, not to be missed.
