Introduced in 1960, MV’s Checca came in small (99cc) and extra small (83cc) displacements and GT, GT Extra and the all-powerful Sport GT with a heady 5.5 horsepower from the 4-stroke single. A mix of a pressed steel rear and duplex cradle tubular steel front end kept weight down and performance up for the diminutive racer. Cost, however, for the MV range was always high, justified by the exquisite styling and engineering, though the similar price tag to a British 500 meant comparatively few were manufactured.
The Checca Sport GT on offer here hails from a very substantial Northern California collector, purchased from the famed Gary Kohs MV Agusta collection. An older restoration that has held up exceptionally well, and although generally in excellent condition, it is not perfectly fresh. On static display for a few years, the bike will need the usual re-commissioning before returning to safe road use.
