Together with the Fiat 500, Piaggio’s unmistakable Vespa scooter was designed for a purpose: to get post-War Italians moving again. Hugely successful in that cause, the Vespa soon transitioned from cheap, utilitarian transport to a fashion icon: the chosen steed by London’s “moderns”, or Italian-suited Mods, against their leather-clad rivals at the next café or seaside town, the Rockers.
The Wasp, or Vespa, on offer here was professionally restored to a very high standard in Italy about 15 years ago. It was then imported to the US and remained on static display in a private collection since. The scooter is offered in excellent mechanical condition with very strong compression. It is accompanied by its original Italian registration booklet and import papers, and the rare, original Italian dealer key fob. Sold on a clean, clear California title.
