Ducati took the racetracks of Italy by storm in 1954 with the Fabio Taglioni-designed 100cc Gran Sport, an overhead cam single with unbeatable power and handling. The engine was scalable and soon a 175cc version, capable of over 80mph, ensured Ducati’s giant-killer legacy.
In 1959 the engine capacity was increased to 200cc for the Elite and Sport models, both capable of over 80mph, quite an achievement of the day. Lightweight and with nimble handling, these are a delight to ride and look at for the discerning collector. And the sound, when it comes on cam, is glorious.
The 1960 Ducati 125cc Super Sport on offer here comes to us from a small, but discerning collection of diminutive Italian machines. On static display in the enthusiast’s office, the cosmetic condition of the bikes, all purchased as viewed, was well-maintained.
The 125 Super Sport was previously part of a Germany-based collection, copies of the German registration accompany the bike. The 28-bike collection was purchased by marque experts, Moto Italia of the Isle of Wight, UK. Our vendor then purchased the 125SS and imported it to the US to his Florida home. Having been on static display, this exquisitely presented machine will need some re-commissioning before returning to regular road use. Sold with a clean, clear Florida title.
